I’m a freelance lighting cameraperson, currently with the Sony EX1 and PDW-350 HD cameras, based in Sydney, Australia.
Having notched up over forty years experience I now tend to write about as well as use some of this amazing technology – and I’ll only say it once here – good bye to tape.
I’ve created this site as an addendum to the XDCAM Pro User Group site, even though both sites will share the same information, this one will relate to my experiences with the new cameras. The site will also allow comments to be made regarding the various articles I intend to write on the subject.
The Sony EX XDCAM series of cameras are the 1st pro cameras utilising the SxS solid state memory cards. On their release I mentioned that they would have ramifications for the video and broadcast industry, and regardless of Red cameras, P2s etc., it will be the EX cameras that will have a bigger and more immediate impact. Simply because of the XDCAM workflows that are now working fairly smoothly after some four years of usage by professional camerapersons throughout the world.
I hope some of my ramblings may be of help to those new to the Sony XDCAM HD format and the workflow that resides with these amazing CineAlta EX cameras.
